Gaia-X, the European initiative for a secure and federated data infrastructure, held its Market-X Conference & Expo on 14 and 15 March in Vienna (Austria). During this event OMEGA-X was announced as a GAIA-X lighthouse project by Roland Fradrany, the COO of Gaia-X.
This is a great milestone for this project with as core objective the creation of an energy data space. And even more exciting: OMEGA-X is the first lighthouse that made it in the energy domain.
Making strides in navigating digital transformation with lighthouse projects
Gaia-X lighthouse projects aim to create a data exchange platform built on transparency, trust, and openness. They target multiple industries, such as Agriculture, Mobility and Manufacturing, and now also…. Energy . These projects will help GAIA-X bring and create a coherent data infrastructure ecosystem and are the front-runners implementing the Gaia-X framework that will equally enable a comprehensive pipeline of future lighthouse projects.
OMEGA-X’s prime references were both GAIA-X and International Data Spaces Association (IDSA). While the latter was already a partner in the project, OMEGA-X now received the full endorsement of GAIA-X. Being a lighthouse project means, among other things, that OMEGA-X aligns with Gaia-X on the following:
- Shared vision and goals in cornerstone questions such as data sovereignty, transparency and avoiding dependencies.
- Use of Gaia-X’s policies, rules, architecture and trust framework as baseline for deployments: OMEGA-X will be open and interoperable with other dataspaces.
- Aim at having a positive impact on the European economy and society.
About Gaia-X
Established in 2021 as a privately funded not-for-profit Association, Gaia-X brings together an international industrial, academic, and political community with the aim of building a common standard for transparent, controllable, and interoperable technologies in order to enable the creation of common data spaces, and in doing so boost the European data economy.
