International SINERGY Conference on Smart and Innovative eNERGY management, Belgrade (RS) 26-28 September 2023

From 26th to 28th of September, 2023, the International SINERGY Conference on Smart and Innovative eNERGY management was organized at the premises of the OMEGA-X partner Institute Mihajlo Pupin. This event brought together 30 experts from Austria, Germany, Ireland, Spain, Greece, Croatia and Serbia who shared their latest experience from different perspectives on the developments needed for the efficient implementation of the smart grid and adoption of  renewable energy technologies for reaching the EU 2030 and 2050 objectives (the European Green Deal).

According to the European Commission (EC-Directorate for Energy) a smart grid is the electricity network that integrates the behavior and actions of all users connected to it (generators, consumers and those that do both), in order to ensure economic efficiency, resulting in a sustainable power system with low losses and high levels of safety, quality and security of supply. The integration of energy production and consumption components through the smart grid concept enables increased demand response and energy efficiency.

The Conference was especially targeted for young researchers and gave them an opportunity to present their results for the first time. The OMEGA-X consortium was represented by colleagues from Institute Mihajlo Pupin (PUPIN), Tecnalia and Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in the following sessions:

  • Patxi Hernandez, Nekane Hermoso and Valentina Janev, Towards Positive Energy Districts: Data Requirements and Use of Tools for Development of Energy Transition Scenarios
  • Anđela Marković, Valentina Janev, Nikola Tomašević and Marko Batić, Approach to Energy System Modelling for Supporting Decarbonization Scenarios in Energy Communities
  • Óscar Cabrera Redondo, Mónica Aragüés Peñalba and Sara Barja-Martinez, Medium-term Electrical Demand Forecasting of Residential Activity

Tecnalia (Nekane Hermoso, young researcher)

Anđela Marković (PUPIN, young researcher)

Óscar Cabrera Redondo (UPC, PhD student)

The event was used as well to plan the future OMEGA-X activities, especially related to the OMEGA-X pilot at the PUPIN campus. Two of the three OMEGA-X papers at this conference were related to the PUPIN planning and decarbonization scenarios part of this pilot.
